In part 1 I covered the atmosphere of The Last Page or TLP and the drinks that we tried. In part 2 I’m going to cover the food. For starters the one thing I like the most about the menu is you can either order for just yourself or they allow you to order family style. I love the family style concept because it gives you the chance to try so many options. Both times we visited we did the family style option. You order everything at once and then the chef decides the best order to send it out in. So just because something is in a certain section you could get it later than something else.
There menu is set up in 4 different sections and you can pick something from each section or just do what we did and choose from all over the place. I’m going to review the food in the order on the menu to make it easiest.
Let’s start with the Colossal Shrimp and the Tuna Tartare. The shrimp came out with 3 good size shrimp with lemon and atomic cocktail sauce. The shrimp of course tasted like shrimp. Let’s be honest it’s the sauce you dip it in that really makes the difference in a shrimp cocktail. The cocktail sauce for this dish was on the spicy side but if you use the right amount of it the shrimp cools it and it provides good flavor and they complement each other well. A little bit goes a long way. I was petrified to try the Tuna as I really don’t eat anything toward the raw spectrum but I am really glad I tried this and it is something I would get again. I like that they provided you shrimp chips and treated this as a dip. I almost forgot I was eating ahi tuna. It was a little on the spicy side as well because of the sauce, which is under the tuna.
Next up the Mediterranean bowl, the Broccolini, and the Sesame Brussel Sprouts. The Mediterranean bowl comes with hummus as the base then tomatoes, cucumber, roasted peppers and feta. Pita chips for dipping. I loved the flavors of the fresh veggies with the hummus. My only wish was that we got more pita chips and the tomatoes were cut smaller. Otherwise this dish is a fabulously light option that packs tons of flavors. As for the Broccolini, I have learned I very much love veggies made like Caesar salads and this was no exception. It comes with Caesar dressing, Parmesan cheese, roasted garlic and crumbled croutons for some crunch. Lastly, in this group the Sesame Brussels. They come with a kimchi yogurt, and ssamjang. The Brussel were unique to me as I had never had ssamjang, a spicy paste used with some Korean foods that are wrapped in leaves. Once again this dish is on the spicy side because of the ssamjang paste but the kimchi yogurt cools the spiciness. The Brussels were cooked perfect, still having some crunch to them.
On to the next section. We tried the Truffle Orecchiette and the Last Chicken Sandwich for this section. I had these items both times I was there. They are fabulous! I have great love for pasta and chicken sandwiches and I find it hard to find either that live up to my expectations. The Truffle Orecchiette is different and I really like that. The sauce is from black truffle cream, pecorino cheese, and garlic. It is so creamy and the noodles were both times cooked to the perfect al dente. As for the chicken sandwich I always like to find a sandwich with a good sauce because it can make or break the sandwich. The chicken is a crispy chicken on a Hawaiian bun, with iceberg lettuce, pickled banana peppers, which gave the sandwich a little bit of a kick, and Yum Yum sauce. I had never thought about adding Yum Yum sauce to a chicken sandwich but with the other ingredients it made the sandwich. You get the initial spicy from the pickled banana peppers and then the coolness from the Yum Yum sauce. Also to add the chicken was juicy both times. I find that some crispy sandwiches can be dry but this was not the case with this one.
For the last section, we tried the Faroe Island Salmon and the Australian Lamb Chops. The salmon has a black garlic soubise sauce on it, which is an onion sauce but then they add whiskey glazed onions to it as well. The salmon was cooked really well, not over or under cooked. The sauce and onions worked really well with the salmon. The last item on the list was the Australian Lamb Chops. I had never had lamb chops before so I was a little nervous. These came with eggplant purée, labneh, a middle eastern yogurt, harissa a Tunisian hot chili pepper paste, parsley and grilled pita. I did like them and found them to have good flavor.
Now on to dessert! They do have some cocktails listed in the desert menu and my friend tried one. If you like chocolate you will love it. Both times I got the Confetti Cake and was in all my glory. It is confetti cake with Mitchell’s vanilla ice cream and a strawberry sauce and it is so good. The cake is moist and the icing is not too sweet. The ice cream just adds to the flavor, and lets be honest who doesn’t love Mitchell’s ice cream.
If you have tried TLP I would love to hear all about your experience and if not make a reservation and check it out. I can’t wait to go and try their brunch and have dinner there again. The food has been so good both times I was there and I can’t wait to for our next visit.
