Mentor Brewing Company use to just be a shop where you purchased brewing and wine making supplies. The owner brewed some of his own beer and had a couple taps in the store. Recently they renovated still keeping the store in the back but adding a bar area in the front. There are seats at the bar and also a bunch of tables. They do not carry food so on Fridays, some Saturdays and some other random nights through out the week, they have local food trucks provide the grub. On Fridays the trucks provide food 4-8. Just recently on a Friday night we stopped in and checked out the new bar and the Fungry food truck was there providing the grub. Since we had not tried either the food or the beer we decided it was the perfect low key Friday night.
Let’s start with the beer. I got a flight so I could try a couple different beers. I tried the Lighthouse, a lighter beer. The Headlands Blonde, another light refreshing beer. The Cardinal Red, which I heard was one of the more popular brews. It was a red ale and was a little on the hoppy side. The last beer I tried was the Hop-kins, which had the most hops of all the beers I tried. I really liked all of them and I think it just depends what type of beer you like or have a taste for. I would order all of them again. Besides beer they also make their own wine, a seltzer, a cider and Kombucha .
Now for the food!!
The Fungry truck is a newer food truck on the food scene and this night they had 5 main options, street corn and chips.
We tried the Naan of your Business, the Feck Off, and the street corn. The Naan of your Business comes with your option of chicken or cevapi, special Fungry sauce, tomato, onion and lettuce. We chose the chicken but I have had cevapi before and it is really good and I think it would go well with this. I am not sure what the special Fungry sauce is made out of but I would have appreciated extra of it on the side. The taco/sandwich was simple but simple in a good way. It had all the right flavors going on. The Feck Off are Irish style egg rolls. They are made with corn beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and come with thousand island dressing drizzled over them. The two things I really enjoyed about these was the texture of the corn beef and the crispiness of the fried egg roll. A lot of the time when you get dishes with corn beef in it the corn beef tends to be fatty and I am not a fan of the texture when this happens. The corn beef in these egg rolls was not fatty at all. They tasted just like a Ruben but in an egg roll form with an amazing crunch to them. Lastly, the street corn, wow is is a cup full of flavor. I love cheese and really like the added cheese served on top. The flavor of the cheese and the seasonings added to the corn work well together. This is a must side dish for me.
Both Mentor Brewing Company and Fungry update their social pages with the different events they are having or are going to be at. I highly suggest giving them a follow and checking them out. I am always a fan of locally brewed beer and the food coming out of the Fungry food truck is unique and I think really represents what I think of when I hear the word Fungry.
