This week was surprisingly quiet. The weather in Cleveland decided to throw a curve ball at us for the end of December going from below 0 to the 60s by the end of the week. It is crazy how that happens in Cleveland but I’ll take 60’s in December. It helps with keeping me motivated as sometimes with the colder weather it can be difficult.
The Monday after Christmas we spent the day relaxing and I’ll admit we finally watched the new Top Gun Maverick. It was such a good movie and I’m sad I waited so long to see it. We also stopped into Melt in Mentor for one of our favorite sandwich specials. Melt does monthly specials and I highly recommend looking into those when you visit. For the month of January they have the potato bacon bomb, the parmageddon, parmageddonator, the peanut butter and jelly bread pudding for dessert and the drink special is the winter apple sangria. They also added their Akron location as one of their locations that has brunch. I partnered with Melt back in May to focus on their brunch and I really enjoyed how unique it is Getting Glazy at Brunch For the month of December and the reason we stopped, and there are a couple of days in July, they have the 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon and it has become one of our favorites. It has Hickory smoked bacon, black pepper crusted slab cut bacon, maple bourbon glazed smoked pork belly, Italian pancetta, herb cream cheese with bacon bits, in-house made bacon infused mayo, sharp cheddar, romaine and tomato. Next time they have it, and if you love bacon it is a must try. We hadn’t had a chance to stop before the holiday so we made it a must do before it was gone. I also got a half sandwich with potato and chorizo and a salad because for anyone who follows they know my obsession with Melt’s salads.
Friday night was date night and we headed out to Cleveland Heights to Zhug. The owner of Amaba also owns Zhug, and I just recently tried Amba and had such a great experience, moving Zhug to the top of my must try list. Zhug is Mediterranean themed with a lot of fresh vegetables. The restaurant is on the small side and even at 9:30 at night Zhug was full. We got lucky and there was one table available but we saw a couple other parties stop in after us that had to wait. The wait is well worth it I promise. The plates here are tapas and are meant to be shared. We tried multiple items off the menu and all the food is so fresh and flavorful.
Saturday we took a road trip out to Maumee to look at a new vehicle. We drove past Maumee River a park or two and it made me wish for warmer weather. I would have loved to get out and walk around, but maybe next time when the weather is warmer. We stopped at Schlotzsky’s deli for lunch. We use to have a bunch of these in Cleveland but all locations have closed in Ohio in the last couple years except this one. To be honest when we had locations I’m not sure I ever went. We had such a good experience at the Maumee location, I’m sad I didn’t give them my business.
I was shocked at the round bread they use instead of the tradition sub bread but honestly it was very good. Everything was very fresh. I decided on the Turkey Bacon Club without tomato, which came on a sourdough bread. The location in Maumee is the only Ohio location left but if your traveling in another state and looking for a quick sandwich place I would stop in to grab a sandwich.
New Year’s Eve night we spent with family just hanging out and watching the ball drop. I hope everyone had a great weekend and Happy New Year!! I can’t wait to see all the opportunities in 2023!
Great post
Thank you so much!
