Let’s start off by saying I have been very cautious since everything has started opening back up where I go and what I do. In my opinion there is still so much unknown that I just want to try and be safe as well as support local businesses. So our first adventure out of the house to a restaurant was because my best friend has a hard time just sitting in the house LOL and she begged me to leave my house. I was a little nervous but would do just about anything for her so my husband and I climbed into her mom van, which is now sadly traded in, for a Sunday adventure for a patio and some food.
Well our travels took us out to Kirtland to Tavern 6, a place I have never been. So, of course you are asking, Ashley you say you were nervous to go out but then you go to a place you have never been before? Wouldn’t you want to go to a place you are comfortable and been to before?
I completely agree with this thinking and was thinking the same way but I sucked it up and figured if I was uncomfortable we could always leave. Let me just start by saying I know service can be different for everyone but since this Sunday I have been here a couple other times and our service has always been amazing. The patio is gorgeous and huge. The tables were spaced out, which I very much appreciated since this was my first time back out eating. Since this Sunday Tavern 6 has become a place that we now frequent and I have been there two other times, as well as telling all my friends and family to go check it out. I love the chill atmosphere and the beautiful flowers. Unfortunately, I am terrible at remembering to take pictures of other things than food and drinks so in the above picture you can kind of see the size of the patio.
I am always a fan of places that are known for something and until I actually tried this place and started doing some research I did not know this place is known for their cupcakes. More about that later.
Between my friends, husband and I we have tried quite a few of the items off the menu at this point. My favorite still being the suggestion of my server on the first day. The grilled chicken sandwich with the chipotle mayo and Mac and Cheese and you have to end your night with a cupcake. I will say this again probably 5 more times in this post. You must!!!
This chicken sandwich is just so juicy, the chipotle mayo gives it even more flavor and the bacon has been crispy just like I like it every time I have ordered this. I also very much appreciate the cheese on the chicken, which most grilled chicken sandwiches are missing. I got mine with no tomato because I have a thing with tomatoes on sandwiches but it does normally have a tomato as well. Then there is the Mac and Cheese. I am a firm believer in some things are just hard to compare like pizza and Mac and Cheese. Everywhere has a different way or version of these items and they can be good multiple different ways. Tavern 6’s Mac and Cheese is creamy, cheesy, amazingness. I will admit I have not changed up my order any of the times I have been there but have made it a point to try everyone else’s food and it has all been amazing. I have also made it a point to try a cupcake every time I am there, which is really not part of my diet but they are just so good. You must try the cupcakes.
The other favorites we tried were the Brussel sprouts, which I do not eat these often so they have to be pretty good for me to be a fan and I was. I liked they were crispy with good flavor. My husband got these both times we were there together so we could split them and the Mac and Cheese. We tried the Baja fish tacos and the thing I was shocked by with these is the freshness of the jalapeño and the mango. The jalapeño was spicy as well just a heads up if you are not a person that likes spicy things. I thought it went very well with the sweetness of the mango and the lemon aioli sauce. My husband also tried the Cuban, which has braised pork, country ham, Swiss cheese, red onions, dill pickles, and Cuban aioli on an Italian loaf. I am going to say this must have been really good as well because it was the one thing I never got to try he ate it so fast. My friend is obsessed with BLT’s so she tried that the night we came for dinner and there was so much bacon on it she could add bacon to her Mac and Cheese, which no one would ever complain about. It also comes with the chipotle mayo sauce. The night we were there for dinner they ran out of cupcakes so for dessert we had shot of Crown Peach instead, which is equally amazing. This is how popular their cupcakes are.
We also then had a very successful girls night consisting of great food, company and cupcakes. My friend ordered the Open Faced Salmon sandwich. I questioned getting salmon as a sandwich but this worked very well. The salmon was cooked a little more than medium and has the same lemon aioli sauce as the Baja fish tacos. We also ended our night off with cupcakes and not just one but three. Once again you must try the cupcakes!!!!
I have tried four different types of cupcakes and all are just as amazing as the food. I even tried the chocolate cupcakes, which for anyone who knows me they will support that I very much dislike most things chocolate. I know I’m weird. People tell me that all the time. They were honestly some of my favorite cupcakes, especially the watermelon with nerds candy on top of the frosting. I of course do not have a picture of it as I brought that one home to eat and forgot to take a picture before I smashed the whole thing by myself. The chocolate cupcake chocolate frosting had Guinness in it, which was the reason I had to try it and then how do you not try the other chocolate cupcake with butterscotch frosting and caramel. Neither disappointed. They were both moist and the frosting has just the right amount of sweetness.
After the first two times I was here I looked into these amazing cupcakes and found articles on line about them and the women who makes them. They are made by Teanna Vitantonio and she has made more the 1,500 different cupcakes as of July of 2019 for Tavern 6. From the research I have done she makes different flavored cupcakes everyday. I know all the ones I have tried have been so good and they are the perfect way to end a meal. Whether you split one with the table or decide to have one to yourself they are must try.
This is a must try restaurant. I love that it is in a small city where everyone knows everyone, they have amazing food and cupcakes and everyone there is so nice and friendly. It is not located too far away from the freeway but far enough that it is a nice relaxing drive to get there. If you have not tried this place I highly suggest it.
