Red The Steakhouse review

The last couple weeks before and after the holidays consisted of lots of good food and family time. For my husband’s birthday we celebrated at Red The Steakhouse and the Cavs game.

Red’s atmosphere is modern but simple. The restaurant allows for personal conversation and even though it’s a more quaint restaurant it is not too loud. The dining room can be a little dark for my liking but otherwise I enjoy how the food is the real star of this restaurant. Red also has a bar area and some hightop tables.

We have been here one other time before and for this time we had some friends come celebrate with us. This time around my husband had a Manhattan and us girls had one of their specialty cocktails that had a strawberry purée and Bourbon. It was the right amount of bourbon and the right amount of sweet strawberry.

The restaurant supplies bread with olive oil and a seasoning mixture. I was sad that at night they do not carry their honey butter which is some of my favorite. They do have it for lunch though, so if your there for lunch it’s a must have. For an appetizer we tried the onion soup gratinee. The flavor was right on point. I love when onion soup has the right amount of cheese so it accompanies each bite. We opted to not try any other appetizer as we wanted to make sure we had room for our steaks and sides.

Our server was very knowledgeable about the steak choices, and other meat and side options on the menu. At a steak restaurant most people get steaks but one of our friends decided on the New Zealand lamb rack. Our server advised most people get the lamb medium so that was how we tried them. Our friend seemed to really like them and with our side dishes it appeared to be the right amount of food.

Pictured at the top is my 8oz filet mignon which I had cooked medium well. It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was melt in your mouth and pretty amazing.

Since it was my husband’s birthday he picked out whatever steak he wanted and he picked the 40 day dry aged C.A.B prime ribeye cooked medium. He said it was tender, cooked to perfection and flavorful. We picked two sides to round out our meal and only needed two sides for four of us due to the size of their sides. We decided on the mac and cheese which had been broiled, giving it a nice crisp top and the noodles were a perfect al dente. Our second side not pictured was the loaded potato gnocchi with bacon cheddar and scallions. This side was very heavy but had amazing flavor.

We ended our night at the Cavs game where it was mascot night, and everyone got Whammer bobble heads need I say any more about my husband birthday celebration!

****I know that many foodies in the city of Cleveland are very passionate about which steak restaurants are better than others. I have eaten at a couple that I honestly would not go back to and then a couple that I feel are equally as good as the other and have special items that really make them stand out. Red and Marble Room being some of my favorites. If you have a favorite please let me know which ones and why.****
