When you have winter weather in Cleveland on a Saturday the best thing to do is work on the Cleveland Brew Tour. We started at Market Garden Brewery, which has become a very popular brewery. I tried 4 samples, 3 of which I had never had before. The Frosty Lime Wit with Tangerine was the favorite of the 4. It was very light but had good fruit flavor. The other 3 samples were very good too but this one really stood out to me and I really enjoyed it.
For food we ordered two burgers, a fried chicken sandwich and the pierogis and chorizo. Everyone seemed happy their burgers and my friend said her fried chicken sandwich was amazing. Our serve suggested the Brussel sprouts and WOW! They had great flavor and where cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the amount of sauce, as they were covered just enough.
I chose the pierogis and chorizo for lunch, Surprise Surprise, and have mixed feelings about it, which should be a surprise with my love of pierogis. I have no complaints about the pierogis or the sauce and onions they were in. I was confused by the one tiny chorizo link I received with my meal. It reminded me of a breakfast sauce which was not what I expecting. I would probably pass on this next time because of this.
Our plan was to knock out a couple breweries so from Market Garden we head to a place I had never been to Bookhouse Brewing. I honestly can’t wait to go back.
First, the atmosphere was very chill with books all over the place, board games and cards. The bathrooms walls are even done in pages from different books. We played a couple board games and enjoyed each other’s company.
I did get a sampler here and liked all 4. The first choice was the Witbier Old Country. I also tried the Whoops! A juicy IPA which smelled much more hoppy/grassy than it tasted. The house cider Young Hearts is a dry cider but not too dry which I always worry about. It had a good flavor and if I was looking for something lighter would probably be my pick as it seems my favorite is a special brew for there anniversary and probably will not be available next time I go back. The Birthday Carrot Cake is the special brew. This brew had the perfect amount of flavor. I didn’t think it was over powering or strong. It had some sweetness to it and if it was a regular on the list I would get it every time.
They also have a pop up waffle bar on the weekends. I had no plan of eating more food but it smelled so good when we walked in we had to try one. My husband and I split one with vanilla glaze with an apricot raspberry mix. The waffle was very dense which worked well with all the different toppings you could pick and there were lots of them. The brewery does have some regular menu food items like popcorn and wings but for the most part you can bring in your own food. Oh and your dog is welcome which everyone knows is a plus in my book.
Our last brew stop of the day was Bad Tom Smith. They have an extensive Brewery list and some special whiskeys. I tried a sample of a strawberry fruit beer that sadly had a very strong medicinal taste. The guys got a sampler and seemed to be happy with their choices. I tried on or two and they were much better than my choice.
There’s always room for Mitchell’s Ice Cream as I don’t get there often but will stop whenever there is one close by. The Ohio City location is cool during the day because you can watch the ice cream being made and take tours of the facility.
That was our Saturday Adventure hope you enjoyed and will check out some of these places in Ohio City!
