Daffodil hill and wandering around Lakeview Cemetery

Lakeview Cemetery is one of Cleveland’s largest cemeteries, where many of the greats have been laid to rest. This cemetery is so gorgeous. There are some interesting tombstones and some of the most gorgeous landscape. I know that some people would question a cemetery being a place to visit but Lakeview Cemetery is a popular place to take a walk and has so much to explore. In the spring time, nearly 100,000 daffodils bloom at Lakeview Cemetery at a place called Daffodil Hill.

I visited twice this spring. The first time just visiting daffodil hill. I was shocked how big of an area it was and how breathtaking. There was a walking path towards the top of the hill and a couple spots where you can walk up and down around the daffodils. It so peaceful to walk through and just enjoy the beauty.

The second visit we visited daffodil hill but then we also visited some of the other popular spots in the cemetery. We visited The Haserot Angel, actually named “The Angel of Death Victorious.” The angel sits on top of the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. The angel is visited often because of the black lines that run down the angels face, that resemble tears. Visitors tend to leave peace offerings of little trinkets or coins.

We also visited the James A Garfield memorial. The inside was still gated off because of the renovations but we walked around the outside. These renovations should be completed soon. If you can get inside, the President’s casket is on display and you can venture up the steps inside from the lobby up to the upper balcony. From the balcony on a clear day you can see the Lake Erie shore. The detail on the outside of this memorial is amazing. You could spend some time just looking at this detail.

We only began to explore Lakeview Cemetery and I can’t wait to go back and explore some more.
